Grizzly Bear Adventure at Knight Inlet Lodge

Knight Inlet Lodge is a very special place. From Victoria, you drive half way up Vancouver Island to Campbell River. From CR you catch a float plane which takes you on a breathtaking 35 min. ride along the coastal mountains to Glendale Cove. You really feel completely off of the grid when you come here. There are no TV's, radios or televisions....awesome.

The cost of visiting the Knight Inlet Lodge is not inexpensive, however, once you've experienced all that this resort has to offer, you won't have an ounce of regret. Prices are all inclusive and include a range of activities from whale watching, salmon fishing, grizzly bear watching on the estuary and at the fish ladder. We experieinced lots of bear action at the fish ladder during our visit. Fishing for salmon is always good fun with the entertaining guides and if you're up for a walk, there are some guided treks into the rain forest. If you have any energy left at the days end, there are several kayaks at your disposal.

The days start early with breakfast from 6.30 am and first activity at 7.30 am. Depending on your own timetable you finished between 5.30 pm and 6.30 pm. The bar opens at 6.00pm with appetizers from 6.30 pm and dinner at 7.00 pm.  all dietary requirements catered for and all the staff were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and attentive – we couldn’t praise the staff highly enough. The days are well organized but the flow is relaxed and the manner informal. All the kit you need for walking through a rain forest is included. We saw grizzly bears, bald eagles, deer, otters, seals and of course, thousands of salmon. Highlights included the inlet cruise with the fantastic Bob Scriba and kayaking up the estuary to see more bears and eagles with Jasmine and again with Dean. It was a joy to be at the Lodge and to spend time with such dedicated and friendly people. There is a post dinner talk at 8.00pm by one of the guides which is quite entertaining.

The food at the Lodge was excellent with mounds of fresh Dungeness crab and prawns. If you're more of a meat eater, you won't be disappointed by the "roast beast" accompanied by all the trimmings. Red and white wine of a local BC variety is included and quite palatable. Being all inclusive, the bar is well stocked and a couple of local BC beers are on tap.

If you love wildlife and remote places you will love Knight Inlet. It is truly a wonderful experience!
