crowds: Keep an eye out for crowds! Any empty restaurant usually means an "unpopular" restaurant. Don't be afraid to ask for advice.

etiquette: Never let your manners get in the way of getting a good meal. Do not be afraid to send food back if it's not to your liking. The better dining establishments pride themeselves on providing world class food and service -- but don't quote us on that.

reservations: the better restaurants suffer from "standing room only syndrome" by seven o'clock, so make reservations if you are planning to dine at prime feed times 5:30 to 7:30.

tipping: In Victoria, it is customary to tip 15%. In some establishments, when there are large groups, the waiter will include the tip on the bill. However, in smaller groups the tips are always left off the tab. If the service is poor all around, then don't tip. Remember, if the food isn't great, it's not the waiters fault. In that case you simply need to inform the manager and they will almost always try to make your visit more enjoyable.
